The Vincentian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (VSPCA) was founded in 2011 by a core group of concerned and motivated individuals who were tired of seeing animals viewed as disposable and treated with cruelty and neglect.  From the early days of drafting their mission statement - to develop the infrastructure for the protection and rehabilitation of animals in need, to promote public awareness and to strengthen the human animal bond - they have mobilised volunteers to continue fulfilling the vision of a kinder, more humane St. Vincent.  They have a long path ahead but as one of their founders says, “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”.

Comprised completely of dedicated volunteers who donate their time and energy, they are fueled by the adage that every life matters. They do their best to ensure each call for help is answered and addressed in a timely and compassionate manner.  In organisations, especially those with human and animal lives involved, it is easy to become overwhelmed when so much suffering is seen on a daily basis. A huge impact can be made with generous one-time or regular monthly donations to fuel their impactful programmes focused on prevention, rescue and education or by simply leaving a bowl of fresh water and food outside a shop if you live on the islands.

The VSPCA team is small, but mighty.  They see hope and are energized by quiet, but powerful observations - children trading in rocks to throw at community dogs for gentle touches and anxious giggles during their first time petting a pup; farmers asking questions at their rural community clinics about alternate methods to keep their livestock safe from hungry starving dogs; members of their Facebook group looking to adopt rather than buying from breeders ... they know they are swimming upstream and have vast challenges on the horizon to successfully sustain an organisation focused on animals while so many people need and deserve basic necessities. St Vincent is a land of contrast - vast and other-worldly beauty juxtaposed with pain and suffering. The VSPCA exists to create a better world for all beings and knows that in supporting animals, they are supporting people. They will continue to succeed with ongoing support from volunteers, donors, and adopters. They will never stop giving voice to the voiceless.

To date, with the kindness of VSPCA supporters near and far, they have been able to:

  • Spay or neuter thousands of animals to address the rampant overpopulation problem in SVG
  • Provide life-bettering treatment to cats, dogs and livestock
  • Establish relationships with schools, community-based organisations, and professional groups through their Humane Education presentations and programming
  • Host international veterinary professionals to collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture’s veterinarians on high volume, high quality medical practices
  • Rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home hundreds of animals through their fostering and adoption services who would otherwise have never had a chance.
